How the Ireland guides are built

The 25 atlas entries are starting points for research. They are not all complete filmed journeys. The Copper Coast has the fuller treatment: a documentary, bilingual audio, individual stop pages and an editable route.

  • Separate story from conditions. The geology and heritage explain why to visit. Weather, tides, opening and parking need a current check through the linked providers.
  • Show the limits of the evidence. A published source does not confirm a firsthand visit. The source register keeps that distinction visible.
  • Keep the route yours. Suggested visit times are editorial estimates. Choose fewer stops if you want a longer walk or a slower day; saving a place is not a booking.

If a detail has changed, use the contact page to send the page link, what you observed and when. An official reference helps us check the correction.

About TheLazyNick

For the curious traveller.

TheLazyNick brings travel films and field guides together. Each story starts with a place and follows the details that make it worth a closer look.

Start with the Copper Coast

Start with Waterford

One coast, several ways in.

The Copper Coast is the first complete Ireland journey on this site. Its rocks record an ancient volcanic and sedimentary history, while the surviving mining structures speak to a much more recent period of labour. The seven-stop guide travels from Tramore towards Dungarvan, with each place page explaining why that stop belongs in the sequence. The coastline rewards an unhurried approach: a broad beach, a geological shore, a small cove and a former engine house each ask you to look for something different.

Use the field guide to watch the film and select stops, or open the drive for a practical east-to-west order. Use the live directions links for current driving times. It links to live directions and makes optional stops clear, so you can plan around the weather, tide and your own pace. For geology and access claims, each place page links to the Copper Coast Geopark, Discover Ireland or local authority sources.

Conditions change on a coast. Check opening times, parking rules and beach notices through the linked providers before travelling, and read the on-site signs when you arrive. The written guide gives context and choices; it is not a substitute for local safety information. Start with Kilfarrasy’s layered cliffs for geology, Tankardstown for mining heritage, or Bunmahon for a beach and visitor-centre break.
