TheLazyNick / site information
Privacy & cookies.
This page describes the current site and its privacy choices. Updated 19 October 2026.
Your saved travel information
Saved places, trip drafts, a chosen country and prepared offline text are held in this browser's storage. They are not a TheLazyNick account and do not sync between devices. You can remove saved travel information in My Travel; clearing browser storage also removes it.
Opening Google Maps or another external link shares the destination or mapped point in that link with the service you open. Your full browser-local trip is not sent to TheLazyNick by saving it.
Maps and video
Interactive maps request map data and tiles from OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap services while connected. Those providers may receive standard network information such as your IP address. The Copper Coast film connects to YouTube only after you select Play or open the YouTube link. Review each provider's privacy information for its own processing.
Blog likes and comments
You can submit a comment without an account. New comments are held for review and are visible only to the browser that submitted them until approved. After approval, your name or nickname, comment and submission date are public. We store those details, the post and the review status in the site's shared database. Names are not verified. Do not include sensitive personal information.
A necessary, anonymous browser cookie remembers your likes and lets you delete comments you posted from the same browser. It expires after 180 days. Clearing the cookie does not delete a published comment; contact us through the contact page if you need help removing one. Brief, rotating keyed hashes of network addresses enforce spam limits; raw addresses are not stored in the discussion database. The comment form is masked from Clarity recordings.
Comment rules and reporting
Keep comments relevant and respectful. Do not post spam, harassment, hateful or illegal material, someone else's private information, or content you do not have permission to share. Links are limited to two per comment. Approval does not mean that TheLazyNick endorses a comment's claims.
Use Report comment on a published comment to flag spam, abuse, rights or privacy concerns, or another issue. We store the selected reason, comment reference, report date and anonymous browser identifier for review. Reports are not public. Reported comments may be rejected or removed after review. You can delete your own pending or published comment from the same browser; contact us for other removal requests.
Optional analytics
With your permission, Google Analytics 4 counts visits and shows which pages and journeys people use. Microsoft Clarity shows clicks, scrolling and session recordings. Clarity is not loaded on My Travel, personal trip pages or the Ireland salary calculator. Our page-view events omit URL query strings, and we do not deliberately include your name, salary input or saved trip details in analytics events.
Analytics is off until you choose Allow analytics. You can decline it or change your choice using the Analytics choices control in the footer. Your choice is stored in this browser so the site can remember it. If you withdraw permission, tracking stops on the next page load. Learn more from Google and Microsoft.
Advertising and your choices
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to a website or other websites. Google’s advertising cookies, including cookies associated with DoubleClick domains, enable Google and its partners to serve and measure ads, limit repeated ads and, where permitted, personalise advertising. Ad serving can also process IP addresses, device or browser identifiers and page interactions. These technologies can operate on sites that use Google advertising.
On TheLazyNick, the advertising library is disabled in the current site configuration: this site does not send advertising requests or set advertising cookies through AdSense. The static Google account-verification tag and the ads.txt publisher record identify the publisher; they do not load the advertising library. Search, private trip information and salary inputs are not used here to select personalised ads.
Google advertising on this site requires verified account approval, applicable privacy disclosures and an implemented consent setup. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, that includes the applicable Google-certified consent management platform and choices for the participating partners and purposes. Those choices must allow visitors to manage or reject consent and return to withdraw consent. The site’s separate Analytics choices control covers GA4 and Clarity; it is not the advertising consent message.
Read how Google uses advertising technologies and manages ad choices. You can opt out of personalised Google advertising using My Ad Center, and find participating vendors’ choices at YourAdChoices. These services describe and manage the providers’ advertising choices; the site’s Analytics choices remain available separately.
Site status
Travel details and the salary calculator include their own verification notes. Always check current official information before making travel or financial decisions.
Your country preference
On a visit to our main homepage, our hosting provider’s approximate IP country helps select Ireland, India or Global. We do not request your precise device location for this feature. Choosing a country in the header stores a functional cookie, tln_country, on this browser for up to one year. Your choice overrides the automatic default on future homepage visits. You can change it at any time, including choosing Global. Direct links to specific pages remain available.
Destination planner and personal ratings
The new planner stores named itineraries and personal destination ratings in your browser only. Use the planner’s delete controls or clear the field-note form to remove them. The travel library brings them together with earlier saved journeys; they do not sync to an account. The Save place controls keep a list of catalogue place IDs in this browser; review or remove them under Saved trips & places. With analytics permission, the planner sends action counts to this site: applied plans, saved trips, shares and print or download requests. Daily totals are grouped by destination, action, entry type and method, with a total stop count, and used for a rolling 90-day report; older totals are removed when the next action is received. They contain no visitor identifiers, trip names, travel dates, notes, chosen stop IDs or share URLs. Google Analytics and session recording are not loaded on the planner. These are action counts, not unique visitors or confirmed completed trips; repeated actions count again. Declining analytics keeps the planner fully usable. Field-note forms on destination pages are masked from session recording.
A shared itinerary link encodes destination, dates and selected stops in query parameters or the link fragment. Anyone you send that link to can read the plan; it is not private access control. Shared links do not contain your personal destination ratings. Downloaded or printed itineraries are files you control.
When you request a forecast, our server sends the selected destination’s reference coordinates to MET Norway. It does not send your location or browser IP to that weather provider. The site receives normal connection information for the request. Forecast results are cached and credited to MET Norway under CC BY 4.0. External map and operator links follow their own privacy policies.
