About this map

Metro colours show connections between stations, using OpenStreetMap-derived station data from TripPilot. Alignment is approximate; this is not track geometry, live service or walking directions. Station approaches require a separate final walk or ride. Check the current DMRC network before travelling.

Photo cards connect to landmark-area pins. Nearby places group together as the map gets crowded; zoom in or select a group to explore them.

Choose the Delhi question you need next

What should I include in three days?

Use the three days as separate local outings, not a checklist to finish in a single long drive. The order below is an editorial starting point: swap days when venue access, outdoor conditions or your arrival make another order more useful. Your accommodation, mobility needs and the actual entrances determine the connections.

    1. Day 1 — Old Delhi: begin with Red Fort, visit Jama Masjid when tourist access permits, and finish with a limited Chandni Chowk circuit. The three visit allowances total about four and a half hours before transfers, queues, meals and breaks. Read the Old Delhi route and its shorter version.
    2. Day 2 — Nizamuddin: give Humayun’s Tomb a substantial visit, then decide how much of Sunder Nursery to add. Allow about two hours at the tomb and 90 minutes for a selected park circuit, with admission and the gate connection separate. Read the paired garden-tomb guide.
    3. Day 3 — south Delhi: make the Qutub Minar complex the main visit, allowing about 100 minutes of visit time before the final approach and return. Do not add every nearby ruin automatically. Check a separate Mehrauli Archaeological Park circuit only if time, conditions and access suit. Read the Qutub complex guide.

These are three available sightseeing days after arrival. If your three calendar days include a flight or a railway connection, start with fewer visits. Missing a transfer buffer is not fixed by shortening the map’s suggested journey time.

Which area should I choose for one day?

For fort, worship and market streets

Choose Old Delhi when you want those contrasts and can manage a substantial monument walk and crowded lanes. It is not a gentle indoor itinerary. Keep the market deliberately small, check mosque access and have a return landmark before entering the lanes.

For garden settings and two neighbouring sites

Choose the tomb-and-park day when the garden approach and conserved landscape appeal. Both are outdoors. Separate tickets, public gates and raised monument areas still matter; proximity does not establish an accessible internal passage.

For one major south Delhi visit

Choose Qutub when you prefer a single substantial complex with room around the journey. Metro can handle the longer connection, but the station and ticket entrance are separate places. An optional second area needs its own review.

For a shorter arrival or departure day

Keep the booked transfer first. A single optional visit near your actual base can work better than a curated full day across town. If baggage, a late arrival or an early departure makes even that awkward, leave sightseeing for another day.

Compare the monuments before choosing · Choose the right arrival and Metro connection

Where do Old Delhi food and market walks fit?

Food and market exploration belongs inside a deliberately chosen Old Delhi outing, rather than as a second full itinerary after the fort. Decide whether the priority is monument time, worship access or a limited lane circuit. Dariba Kalan and Kinari Bazaar offer different trades; the Khari Baoli spice-market extension adds another leg beyond the core day.

Agree dietary needs before ordering and ask about preparation and ingredients. No stall or named food lane guarantees an allergy-safe meal. Choose a break for your group, leave room for seated rest, and remove another optional part if the meal becomes the main event.

Choose the Old Delhi core, shorter circuit or spice-market extension on the map. The extension remains outside the core planner’s three sightseeing stops.

Can I add Connaught Place or another market?

Only after checking the time and journey from your actual day’s finish. Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, Sarojini Nagar and Dilli Haat INA are different outings; they do not form one useful evening circuit. A city-wide list of appealing names is not a route.

For an uncommitted half-day, choose one neighbourhood and decide what matters there: browsing, a seated meal, architecture or an event. Check the actual market’s hours and the return connection. Do not assume every shop follows a single weekly closure.

Dilli Haat INA has an existing place guide; add it only as a separate transfer if it suits your plan. Keep Lodhi Garden distinct from Lodhi Art District, and both distinct from the Nizamuddin garden-tomb pairing.

How should I choose a base and manage returns?

Compare the arrival-to-base journey and each planned area before booking accommodation. A central Metro connection may be useful across several directions, while a base near Nizamuddin may reduce one day’s final approach. The nearest station name does not show whether luggage, stairs or a long last-mile walk will suit your group.

Add a neighbourhood or landmark as your starting and return area in the planner, rather than a private address. Check the outward and return directions separately. Use the actual station name on a railway ticket: NDLS, DLI and NZM require different connections. For a T3-to-NDLS transfer, use the airport-to-New Delhi station guide and keep its optional checklist with the plan.

Review travel dates and venue notices before departure. Downloading a plan keeps the reading and the selected visits; it does not refresh a timetable or store live navigation. Share links include the trip date, chosen places and any starting area or arrival checklist you select.

      Questions before you go

Is three days enough for a first Delhi visit?

Three available sightseeing days can cover Old Delhi, the garden-tomb pairing and a separate Qutub visit. Arrival, departure and the connections around each day need extra allowance; reduce the sightseeing if those consume your calendar days.

Can I plan two Delhi days without a car?

You can use Metro for suitable longer journeys and review the final approaches separately. Preview the two-day template, then check actual station pairs, gate access and outward and return connections for your base.

Should I buy a three-day Metro tourist card automatically?

No. Compare the eligible rides you actually expect to take with the current card price. Airport Express and local road rides are outside that comparison. The transport guide provides a manual comparison tool.

Does the map show a continuous walking route across Delhi?

No. Select one area to see its own visit order. Different areas are separate outings, and every final entrance approach still needs checking.

Will the whole day fit your available time?

Open each Delhi day in the planner to review its start and return-by times. The whole-day budget separates selected visit estimates, outward and return allowances, a per-connection allowance between visits, meal breaks and queue/rest contingency. It shows an estimated return and any time beyond your window.

The initial 09:00–18:00 window and travel/break values are examples. New Delhi drafts add the selected Metro station access times separately. Choose walking, auto, shared auto or taxi access inside each day. Select only the station legs you need; for direct journeys between sights, remove the station detour and include that connection in the manual travel allowance. Existing saved plans retain their manual times until you connect Metro access. Walking estimates come from the shared place routes; ride time is an editable pickup-and-ride allowance, not a traffic prediction. A separate visit-window check uses published hours, regular closure days and last-entry cutoffs where available. Airport arrival processing and flight reporting requirements remain separate. Use a start and end on the same Delhi local day.

Choose Download PDF for large text, phone-sized pages, day bookmarks and embedded route maps, Metro changes and walking directions. The HTML download remains available. The Delhi HTML itinerary download is a self-contained HTML file with embedded day-route diagrams, Metro station sequences and interchanges, plus cached walking directions and individual walking sketches. Save it before leaving connectivity and download again after editing your plan. Online guide and map links still require internet. Each day has a numbered route map with its selected Metro lines, interchanges and walking connections. It redraws when stops or travel settings change. Open the map inside an order or shorter-day suggestion to inspect it before applying. Coloured Metro segments join reference station positions; dashed links show manual or unverified connections. Reordering, adding or moving visits recalculates the budget without automatically removing them. Use Suggest best order to compare all your selected visits against available opening windows, Metro travel and the full-day budget. If the day is overloaded or has opening conflicts, Find a shorter day searches for the most visits that fit while keeping your must-keep choices. Review the order, travel time, fare, removed visits and station-leg changes before applying. Longer lists use a bounded search; unknown or provisional opening hours still need confirmation. Your draft changes only when you apply an option. Named saved copies are kept until explicitly replaced.

The daily transport summary uses group totals: auto and taxi meter references multiply by the selected vehicles, while an entered shared-auto quote multiplies by travellers. Add a group allowance for Metro, base journeys and other transport. Missing fares stay marked incomplete; zero must be entered explicitly. App quotes and supplements can differ. Automatic Metro can calculate supported station connections, reference running time, boarding/interchange allowances and single-journey fares. Choose a base Metro station for outward and return journeys. These calculated times replace the corresponding manual allowance; station-to-attraction walking or riding remains separate. Sunday and national-holiday ordinary fares are date-aware; Airport Express has a separate tariff. This is a historical route reference with current fare tables, not live departures, and it can miss newer extensions. Your saved time settings, base Metro station, group size, access choices and cost allowances travel with named trips, shared links and downloaded itineraries. Older links use the clearly labelled example allowances until you adjust them. Opening-window waiting is added to the total. The visit timeline puts queue/rest contingency before the first visit and meal breaks after it. Closed-day, late-finish and return-budget conflicts keep your visits for review. Unverified hours and conflicting sources are labelled; sunrise/sunset windows use approximate Delhi daylight with a 15-minute margin. Confirm special closures, actual admission, queues, public approaches and return services independently.

Start with your actual base and available days

Choose one area for each available local day. Compare the arrival connection and the return before adding optional visits. Your base, access needs and time at the main attraction matter more than the number of pins.

      START WITH THE RIGHT PLACE

      Arriving in Delhi

Save your base’s name and address before arrival. Check the full connection, including luggage, arrival time and the final approach, before choosing Metro or an arranged ride.

      Airport Terminal 3

The airport identifies the Airport Express / Orange Line connection for T3. Choose the onward connection for your actual base; New Delhi station is not everyone’s final destination.

      Airport Terminal 1

T1 connects with the Magenta Line. It is a different station and journey from T3’s Airport Express connection. Follow current terminal signage and check the interchange your base needs.

Terminal 2 or a terminal change

Use the airport’s current terminal-transfer instructions and Metro connection. Check your flight’s actual terminal; do not assume every airport arrival uses the same station or walkway.

      Arriving by train

Keep the station name printed on your ticket: New Delhi, Old Delhi / Delhi Junction and Hazrat Nizamuddin are different arrival points. Check the exit or meeting point with your onward transport; avoid selecting only “Delhi” in a map.

Late arrival, luggage or a delayed connection?

Check the last usable service and the onward leg before selecting Metro. If it does not fit, arrange a suitable ride and agree the destination, pickup and price or fare method through the provider. Keep the first evening flexible and start the sightseeing plan on a rested day.

      Before an outdoor day

Read current weather warnings and air quality alongside the opening arrangements. Both pilot days are outdoors: gardens are not an indoor fallback. If conditions do not suit your group, postpone the circuit and choose any indoor visit separately after checking its admission and access.

IMD: New Delhi warnings · CPCB: current air quality

A downloaded plan keeps the reading, not live transport directions or fresh conditions.

Delhi, New Delhi and Old Delhi

Delhi is the wider destination. Old Delhi is the historic Shahjahanabad area; New Delhi is another part of the city. Use the specific area and full station name for every journey.

      When should you go?

Our month labels describe outdoor sightseeing comfort, not a forecast. Delhi Tourism identifies spring and autumn as milder, summer as very hot and July to mid-September as humid and wet. Cooler weather does not guarantee good air quality: check the current AQI before choosing long outdoor days.

How I put the Delhi days together

By Nikhil (Nick) · Editorial notes updated .

I built the Delhi itinerary around neighbourhoods because a collection of famous monuments can otherwise become a collection of transfers. The map should help you understand the city, rather than persuade you that every point deserves the same day. My starting pattern is Old Delhi, the garden tombs and Mehrauli on separate days. These notes explain the research and editorial choices behind that arrangement; they are not a claim that I have recently visited every venue or tested every local transfer described below.

Each day has a main subject. In Old Delhi, a major monument belongs beside streets where worship, deliveries and shopping continue around visitors. The garden-tomb day asks for more attention to architecture, approaches and open space. Mehrauli offers another historical setting. I would choose the visit that matters most before attaching nearby stops, then leave a proper meal and some unallocated time in the schedule. That keeps a long queue or a slower visit from turning the rest of the day into a race.

Getting between districts and reaching the actual entrance are different tasks. The Metro can anchor the wider journey, but the last part still needs a walking or local-transfer decision. A hotel that sounds central may be poorly placed for the areas you most want to explore. I would compare accommodation against the stations and arrival arrangements you expect to use, with luggage and the whole group's needs in mind. The detailed place links help you move from a district name to a specific arrival point.

Seasonal advice also needs a daily layer. A generally suitable month does not settle the temperature, rain or air quality on the day you arrive. Before confirming a long outdoor programme, check current conditions and keep an indoor or shorter alternative available. Monument tickets, opening days and the scope of a purchased ticket deserve their own check with the official operator. I keep those decisions beside the historical context so they are part of the plan, rather than an unwelcome discovery at the gate.

Use the suggested days as modules and adjust their intensity. Someone interested in architecture may prefer more time at one complex; someone travelling with children may want a shorter monument visit and a longer break. Where the guide offers durations or ratings, read them as editorial planning aids and examine the accompanying reasons. My aim is for you to recognise the shape of a day before booking it, then use the linked sources to confirm the changing details that a static itinerary cannot settle.

      Continue planning Delhi
