Delhi Markets and Neighbourhoods: Choose a Half-Day Route

For a first central-Delhi half-day, use Connaught Place as the main area and add a limited Janpath browse only if time remains. Hauz Khas, Lodhi Art District, Sarojini Nagar and Dilli Haat INA are separate alternatives. Choose one purpose, check the final approach and return, and keep meals, queues and transfers outside the visit allowance.

What can I see around Connaught Place in half a day?

Start with a manageable section of Connaught Place’s colonnades rather than trying to circle every block. The architecture, radial roads and different shopfronts provide a clear central-city outing even if you buy nothing. Choose a meeting landmark before browsing, and give the return journey its own allowance.

Delhi Tourism identifies Rajiv Chowk on the Blue and Yellow lines for the area. Check the exit and the street approach for the part you want; the station name does not identify one universal meeting point. A different exit can put your group on another part of the circle.

The planner’s two-hour estimate is for selected browsing and architecture, not a complete half-day from your accommodation. Add the outward connection, breaks, a meal and any extra browsing separately. If you have a fixed departure, stop adding optional places when that buffer becomes small.

Use the transport hub to compare the actual station pair and ticket. A tourist card’s value depends on the rides you will take, not on how many shopfronts you see during one walk.

    When should I add Janpath?

Add Janpath only when you still want to browse and have time for another connection and return. Delhi Tourism describes clothing, jewellery, curios and Tibetan-market browsing in the area. Choose a small section, inspect what you intend to buy and ask about the specific item and price before payment.

The central map layer shows the order from the Connaught Place area to Janpath. Its dashed line is orientation rather than a surveyed pedestrian path. Review actual crossings and public access on the day, and turn back when the extra browsing no longer fits.

Keep Janpath optional within the Connaught Place visit. The planner does not add a second compulsory attraction or pretend that every shop has the same hours. A shop, a street market and an indoor emporium can follow different schedules; check the place you actually intend to use.

There is no requirement to end with a purchase or a meal in a named venue. A short architecture-and-browsing outing can be a complete half-day once travel and a seated break are included.

When is Hauz Khas Village the better choice?

Choose Hauz Khas when village lanes and a possible heritage visit interest you more than central-city shopping. The village, the monument complex and an evening venue are different decisions. A shopping or nightlife listing does not establish admission to the heritage area, and a heritage opening window does not describe a late-night return.

Delhi Tourism’s heritage listing identifies IIT Metro as an approach. Check the complete final connection rather than assuming Hauz Khas Metro is the village entrance. Confirm where a vehicle can collect you, especially if your outward and return arrangements differ.

The saved village visit allows about 90 minutes for selected lanes. A separately chosen monument visit, meal, event or nightlife booking needs additional time and its own entry arrangements. If you add the heritage area, read the current ASI-linked visitor information before paying or arriving near closing.

For an evening, check the actual venue’s age, entry, booking and closing arrangements directly and keep a reliable return connection. The map does not identify licensed venues, guarantee admission or reserve a ride. Choose the evening for your group rather than treating “nightlife” as another automatic stop after a long sightseeing day.

How do I visit Lodhi Art District considerately?

Lodhi Art District is a public-art project in a residential part of Lodhi Colony. St+art India’s own account provides the project context and examples of artists’ work. Use that context to choose a few murals rather than promising yourself a fixed list of walls that may have changed.

Keep to public approaches, leave residents’ doorways and access routes clear, and ask before photographing people. A mural on a residential wall is not permission to enter a courtyard or pose on private property. Maintenance, construction or neighbourhood activity can change what is visible.

The planner allows about 75 minutes for a deliberately limited outdoor walk. That is an editorial visit estimate, not a guided-tour duration or an accessible-route certification. Choose the actual starting and return landmarks and check the final connection from your base or station.

Lodhi Art District is different from Lodhi Garden, and both differ from Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery. They are not interchangeable names for one garden walk. Add another area only after reviewing the separate transfer and your remaining energy.

What should I know before choosing Sarojini Nagar?

Choose Sarojini Nagar when a limited clothing or market browse is the main purpose of the outing. Delhi Tourism describes its garment trade and lists Monday closure. Confirm the shops or market arrangements for your actual date before travelling; do not use the day to test an uncertain opening assumption.

Expect to inspect the actual item you will receive. Ask about sizing, trial arrangements and returns before paying; a street-side stall may not offer a changing room or the same terms as a formal store. Make comparison and bargaining a conversation you can leave, rather than a commitment to buy.

The planner allowance is about 90 minutes for a chosen circuit. Shopping can expand to fill much more time, so agree a meeting landmark and a turnaround before splitting up. Leave room to reach the return station or pickup with whatever you buy.

Check current Metro routing to the actual market and choose the station exit or onward connection separately. A map marker identifies the market area, not a vehicle pickup bay or an accessible public gate.

When does Dilli Haat INA fit?

Choose Dilli Haat INA when you want crafts browsing in a ticketed venue with regional cultural context. Use the INA location: another Dilli Haat branch is a different journey. Check the current public hours, admission category and any event arrangement through Delhi Tourism before departure.

The official page contains older material alongside current visitor information, including differing price references. Confirm the ticket at the current purchase channel rather than copying a single amount from a search result. A craft-market ticket is separate from Metro fares, purchases and a meal.

The existing saved stop allows about 90 minutes for selected crafts browsing. Food can be a separate choice when it suits your requirements; the venue’s regional labels do not certify ingredients or shared preparation. Ask about the actual dish before ordering.

Check the INA Metro connection and the public entrance, then keep the return landmark with your plan. It can be a main half-day choice; it does not need to be appended to a full Mehrauli day simply because both appear in the wider Delhi guide.

Which area matches my available time and energy?

Use one purpose to narrow the choice. Connaught Place suits a central architecture-and-browsing outing, with Janpath optional. Hauz Khas suits village lanes with a separately chosen heritage or evening visit. Lodhi Art District suits a limited outdoor mural walk. Sarojini Nagar suits clothing-market browsing. Dilli Haat INA suits a ticketed crafts visit.

Those are alternatives, not a recommended sequence. Connecting all five would spend much of the day moving across the city and would leave little room for the reason you chose each area. The map deliberately displays one area layer at a time.

All involve some outdoor exposure and walking. Shop interiors, covered colonnades or a shorter circuit do not establish an indoor fallback or a continuous step-free route. Check conditions and the access your group needs, then shorten or postpone when appropriate.

For another available day, assign a different area in the day builder. Keep the same area on one day rather than duplicating a market in multiple saved days.

How do I keep a half-day route in the planner?

Select an area layer on the map, then preview its visit. The planner keeps the area as one stop so that internal lanes, optional browsing and breaks are not counted as separate compulsory attractions. Review the actual date, outward connection, return area and any admission before applying the selection.

Applying a preview changes the open draft after your choice. Named saved trips remain available; save a new name when you want to retain another version. A share link retains the selected stop order and local days, while a downloaded HTML brief keeps the reading and an editable-plan return link.

For Old Delhi, use the food-and-lane hub or the full fort-and-mosque day. For monuments, compare admission and opening-day checks. For a fuller first visit, return to the main Delhi guide.

    Questions before you go

Can I combine all five neighbourhoods in one half-day?

Treat them as alternatives. Choose one purpose and area, then allow for the outward journey, walking, breaks and return. The map does not present them as a continuous route.

Is Lodhi Art District the same as Lodhi Garden?

No. The art district is a public-art setting in a residential area of Lodhi Colony. Lodhi Garden is a different visit; Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery are another pairing.

Is Sarojini Nagar open on Monday?

Delhi Tourism lists Monday closure. Confirm the actual market or shop arrangement for your intended date before travelling.

Does the Connaught Place planner preview require a Janpath visit?

No. Janpath is an optional extension within the area outing. Its extra browsing, crossings and return allowance are yours to review; the planner keeps the main area as one stop.
