DELHI / MAKE THE NEXT DECISION
Where to Stay in Delhi: Choose Your First-Visit Base
For a first Delhi visit, compare Connaught Place for a central Metro base, Karol Bagh or Paharganj for a budget-focused search, Green Park for a South Delhi base, and Aerocity for airport-led stays. Choose the exact property only after checking its station approach, arrival arrangements and the journeys in your itinerary.
Which area fits this Delhi trip?
Choose an area around the journeys you will actually make. The budget labels below are search starting points, not live room quotes or a ranking of individual properties. Compare the final total for your dates and group.
Compare all five areas below. Choose a priority to make a short reading list.
| Area | Best fit | Metro reference | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connaught Place | A first visit split between Old Delhi and other parts of the city | Rajiv Chowk · Yellow / Blue; compare Shivaji Stadium for Airport Express | Central does not mean quiet, inexpensive or a short walk from every station exit. |
| Karol Bagh | Travelers who want a Blue Line connection and a market-area base | Karol Bagh · Blue Line | The district is larger than the Metro-station catchment; market streets can add noise and a slower luggage approach. |
| Paharganj / NDLS west side | A budget-led stay or a trip that genuinely needs the NDLS side of the city | Compare RK Ashram Marg · Blue Line and the actual NDLS / New Delhi Metro approach | Busy lanes, station-side traffic and different railway approaches require a specific arrival plan. |
| Green Park / South Delhi | A South Delhi stay with Yellow Line sightseeing connections | Green Park · Yellow Line; Hauz Khas is a separate Yellow / Magenta interchange | South Delhi is a broad label; Green Park, Hauz Khas station and Hauz Khas Village are distinct places. |
| Aerocity | Airport-led stays, a short stop between flights or a confirmed late-arrival pickup | Delhi Aerocity · Airport Express | Airport proximity does not remove the terminal transfer; daily sightseeing still involves travel into the city. |
Area map: compare five starting points
Read the trade-offs before choosing a base
AREA 01
Connaught Place
Consider it for: A first visit split between Old Delhi and other parts of the city
Budget search: Start with mid-range / higher-budget options; compare the final total
Metro reference: Rajiv Chowk · Yellow / Blue; compare Shivaji Stadium for Airport Express
Compare the building’s actual street with Rajiv Chowk and, for Airport Express arrivals, Shivaji Stadium. They are different stations. A booking described as Connaught Place may sit outside the circles.
Arrival: T3 Airport Express can be useful via Shivaji Stadium, followed by a separately checked final connection. Do not assume the Metro exit is beside the property.
Use the central location to simplify choices, rather than adding extra cross-city stops. Ask whether the room faces a busy road, whether the building has a lift and where a vehicle can legally stop. For an evening return, retain a recognisable street landmark in addition to the neighbourhood name.
Trade-off: Central does not mean quiet, inexpensive or a short walk from every station exit.
AREA 02
Karol Bagh
Consider it for: Travelers who want a Blue Line connection and a market-area base
Budget search: A useful area for comparing budget / mid-range options
Metro reference: Karol Bagh · Blue Line
Check the route from Karol Bagh Metro to the actual building. A short map distance does not confirm a clear pavement, a lift or an easy luggage walk.
Arrival: An Airport Express arrival may need an interchange or a local transfer. Compare that complete journey with an authorised pickup for your arrival time.
Request the exact address and street-side entrance before arrival. Compare recent comments about room noise, hot water and cleanliness rather than relying on the area’s budget reputation. Keep time for the Blue Line journey and the final walk when planning an Old Delhi morning.
Trade-off: The district is larger than the Metro-station catchment; market streets can add noise and a slower luggage approach.
AREA 03
Paharganj / NDLS west side
Consider it for: A budget-led stay or a trip that genuinely needs the NDLS side of the city
Budget search: Compare budget options carefully; the lowest room price is only one cost
Metro reference: Compare RK Ashram Marg · Blue Line and the actual NDLS / New Delhi Metro approach
Confirm whether the property is on the Paharganj side and which road or lane reaches it. New Delhi railway station, New Delhi Metro and RK Ashram Marg are not interchangeable pickup points.
Arrival: Read the airport-to-NDLS guide, then plan the remaining railway-side crossing or local connection separately. Do not treat reaching the station as reaching the room.
Ask for the written entrance and pickup instructions, reception availability and baggage policy. Keep the confirmed booking contact available and verify any request to change the booked property through that contact. Review the room and final approach before committing to a long non-refundable stay.
Trade-off: Busy lanes, station-side traffic and different railway approaches require a specific arrival plan.
AREA 04
Green Park / South Delhi
Consider it for: A South Delhi stay with Yellow Line sightseeing connections
Budget search: Compare mid-range / higher-budget rooms and the full transfer cost
Metro reference: Green Park · Yellow Line; Hauz Khas is a separate Yellow / Magenta interchange
Use Green Park as the reference area on this map, then check the exact property against its usable station. Do not infer a short walk to Hauz Khas Village from a station or neighbourhood name.
Arrival: For T1, compare the Magenta Line connection and your interchange; T3 Airport Express is a different route. Check the terminal before choosing either journey.
Choose this base because the surroundings and your selected days suit, rather than assuming every southern monument is nearby. Qutub, Lotus Temple and the garden-tomb area still need separate connections. Ask about road noise and the return route to the actual building, especially if a quiet room or limited walking is important.
Trade-off: South Delhi is a broad label; Green Park, Hauz Khas station and Hauz Khas Village are distinct places.
AREA 05
Aerocity
Consider it for: Airport-led stays, a short stop between flights or a confirmed late-arrival pickup
Budget search: Start with higher-budget options and verify the full room-and-transfer total
Metro reference: Delhi Aerocity · Airport Express
Locate the exact building and Delhi Aerocity Metro approach. Aerocity is not IGI Airport Metro station, and neither station name identifies an airline check-in door.
Arrival: Check the actual terminal, reception time and pickup arrangement. If the usable train service does not fit the arrival, confirm an authorised road transfer separately.
Compare the convenience on the arrival and departure days with the repeated city journeys on sightseeing days. A short overnight stay can justify a different base from a three-day city visit. Confirm whether any advertised airport transfer is included, needs booking or runs only at particular times.
Trade-off: Airport proximity does not remove the terminal transfer; daily sightseeing still involves travel into the city.
What should I check before paying for a room?
Compare the final amount for the same dates, room type and number of people. Check included taxes, cancellation conditions, meals, early check-in and any transfer charge. An area’s typical budget position does not establish what a particular room costs or includes. Keep the confirmation and the property’s contact details in your own travel records.
Read recent comments about noise, cleanliness, air conditioning and hot water alongside the property’s own room description. Ask whether your room is reached by a lift, whether there are steps at the entrance and whether the actual bathroom arrangement meets your needs. A lift symbol does not establish an entirely step-free stay.
For a late arrival, get reception and entrance instructions in writing. Confirm the exact pickup landmark and how you will recognise any arranged driver. Check an unexpected booking change through the contact on the original confirmation. Keep a fallback transport choice if the usable Metro service does not fit.
How do I compare the base against my sightseeing days?
Open your chosen Delhi day areas before settling on the room. Compare the outward and return journey for each day, including the station approach, security, changes and the last local connection. A central base does not remove queues or make every attraction a short walk.
For limited walking, ask about each complete connection: building entrance to vehicle or station, the interchange if any, and station to attraction entrance. Do not select a base from straight-line map distance alone. If a particular pickup or lift is essential, confirm it before a non-refundable booking.
Use the transport hub for terminal and ticket decisions and the T3–NDLS transfer guide when that is your actual connection. For a short flight stop, complete the layover checks before adding a city visit. The airport terminal and the neighbourhood are separate decisions.
What happens when I choose an area in the planner?
Each area link opens a starting-area preview. Read the proposed area and your current base, then choose whether to apply it. Applying changes only the starting/return-area field; it does not select a room, add a sightseeing stop, change the day order or make a transport booking.
Existing dates, pace, arrival checklist and chosen visits stay in the open draft. Named saved copies remain unchanged until you explicitly save or replace one. The starting area then travels with a named save, shared itinerary and downloaded brief. To preserve a different version, save another named copy before changing it.
You can still edit the public area or landmark in the planner’s base field. Do not enter a private address, booking reference or identity document there. The base is visible to anyone who receives that itinerary’s share link.
Sources for the connections and booking checks
Area trade-offs and budget-search labels are editorial comparisons. Use the operators for current journey planning and the accommodation provider for the exact room, access, price and arrival arrangement. Official listings do not establish current availability or a personal recommendation.
Will the whole day fit your available time?
Open each Delhi day in the planner to review its start and return-by times. The whole-day budget separates selected visit estimates, outward and return allowances, a per-connection allowance between visits, meal breaks and queue/rest contingency. It shows an estimated return and any time beyond your window.
The initial 09:00–18:00 window and travel/break values are examples. New Delhi drafts add the selected Metro station access times separately. Choose walking, auto, shared auto or taxi access inside each day. Select only the station legs you need; for direct journeys between sights, remove the station detour and include that connection in the manual travel allowance. Existing saved plans retain their manual times until you connect Metro access. Walking estimates come from the shared place routes; ride time is an editable pickup-and-ride allowance, not a traffic prediction. A separate visit-window check uses published hours, regular closure days and last-entry cutoffs where available. Airport arrival processing and flight reporting requirements remain separate. Use a start and end on the same Delhi local day.
Choose Download PDF for large text, phone-sized pages, day bookmarks and embedded route maps, Metro changes and walking directions. The HTML download remains available. The Delhi HTML itinerary download is a self-contained HTML file with embedded day-route diagrams, Metro station sequences and interchanges, plus cached walking directions and individual walking sketches. Save it before leaving connectivity and download again after editing your plan. Online guide and map links still require internet. Each day has a numbered route map with its selected Metro lines, interchanges and walking connections. It redraws when stops or travel settings change. Open the map inside an order or shorter-day suggestion to inspect it before applying. Coloured Metro segments join reference station positions; dashed links show manual or unverified connections. Reordering, adding or moving visits recalculates the budget without automatically removing them. Use Suggest best order to compare all your selected visits against available opening windows, Metro travel and the full-day budget. If the day is overloaded or has opening conflicts, Find a shorter day searches for the most visits that fit while keeping your must-keep choices. Review the order, travel time, fare, removed visits and station-leg changes before applying. Longer lists use a bounded search; unknown or provisional opening hours still need confirmation. Your draft changes only when you apply an option. Named saved copies are kept until explicitly replaced.
The daily transport summary uses group totals: auto and taxi meter references multiply by the selected vehicles, while an entered shared-auto quote multiplies by travellers. Add a group allowance for Metro, base journeys and other transport. Missing fares stay marked incomplete; zero must be entered explicitly. App quotes and supplements can differ. Automatic Metro can calculate supported station connections, reference running time, boarding/interchange allowances and single-journey fares. Choose a base Metro station for outward and return journeys. These calculated times replace the corresponding manual allowance; station-to-attraction walking or riding remains separate. Sunday and national-holiday ordinary fares are date-aware; Airport Express has a separate tariff. This is a historical route reference with current fare tables, not live departures, and it can miss newer extensions. Your saved time settings, base Metro station, group size, access choices and cost allowances travel with named trips, shared links and downloaded itineraries. Older links use the clearly labelled example allowances until you adjust them. Opening-window waiting is added to the total. The visit timeline puts queue/rest contingency before the first visit and meal breaks after it. Closed-day, late-finish and return-budget conflicts keep your visits for review. Unverified hours and conflicting sources are labelled; sunrise/sunset windows use approximate Delhi daylight with a 15-minute margin. Confirm special closures, actual admission, queues, public approaches and return services independently.
Questions before you go
Which Delhi area should I compare first for a first visit?
Start by comparing Connaught Place for a central base, then match the actual property and Metro approach to your selected days. Karol Bagh, Paharganj, Green Park and Aerocity suit different priorities. No neighbourhood name guarantees a quiet room, easy access or the best price.
Is Aerocity the best base for sightseeing in Delhi?
It can suit airport-led stays, but compare the repeated journeys into the city against its arrival and departure convenience. Check your flight terminal and the exact property transfer separately. Airport proximity is not a door-to-door connection guarantee.
Can I choose a base without replacing my itinerary?
Yes. Use an area’s planner link, review the proposed starting area, then confirm it. Only the starting/return area changes. Your chosen stops, days, pace, arrival checklist and named saved copies remain intact. Save a named copy again if you want to retain the revised base.
Does this map show accommodation or verified entrance gates?
The pins are approximate neighbourhood orientation points. They are not accommodation recommendations, station exits, pickup points or verified accessible routes. Check the exact building, current station approach and arrival instructions before booking.
