Delhi Itineraries: One, Two or Three Days by Area

Plan Delhi around one local area per available sightseeing day. For two days, pair an Old Delhi day with Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery on a separate day; add Qutub as a third main visit if you have another day. Use the builder to choose alternatives, then review dates, access, transfers and breaks before applying the plan.

How should I plan two days without crossing Delhi repeatedly?

Give each day a main area and a clear finish. The standard two-day preview uses Red Fort, Jama Masjid and a limited Chandni Chowk circuit on one day, then Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery on another. It avoids treating a distant garden, market and monument as spare-time additions to the same outing.

The order is a starting point rather than a booking promise. Swap days when the main venue’s access, your arrival or outdoor conditions make that more useful. Check each admission and the actual final approach before choosing the date, and keep your base-to-first-visit and last-visit-to-base connections separate.

The Old Delhi plan’s visit allowances total about four and a half hours before queues, meals, street connections and rests. The tomb-and-park pairing allows about two hours at the tomb and 90 minutes for a selected park circuit, with separate gates and admission. Those totals are visit estimates, not a timetable for the whole day.

Use the builder above when another area suits your interests better. Changing a day choice previews the proposed days; it does not silently rewrite a named trip saved in your browser.

What should I keep if I have only one day?

Choose the area that contains the visit you would most regret missing. Old Delhi combines imperial spaces, active worship and a living market. The garden-tomb pairing compares two neighbouring landscapes. Qutub gives a major south-Delhi complex room to be the main event. Each works as its own choice.

If the available day is shorter, choose a market-focused Old Delhi visit or one of the half-day areas in the neighbourhood comparison. A limited Connaught Place browse or a small mural walk can fit better than a full monument circuit, depending on your base and access needs.

A day that includes an international arrival or a fixed railway departure is not automatically a full sightseeing day. Count the complete transfer before choosing visits. If baggage, an early departure or a late arrival consumes the useful time, leave sightseeing for another date rather than using an optimistic map estimate as the buffer.

Keep permission to remove the second visit. At the tomb, that can mean leaving Sunder Nursery for another day. In Old Delhi, it can mean a main monument and a limited market circuit, or the market alone when that is your priority.

What does a third day add?

The standard three-day preview adds Qutub Minar complex as a separate third-day main visit. It does not automatically add every nearby Mehrauli site or require a crafts-market finish across town. The point of the extra day is space around a substantial visit, not a larger count of names.

Use the complex’s existing guide to check admission, approach and access. The editorial 100-minute visit estimate excludes the station-to-entrance connection, queues and the journey back. If you want another Mehrauli stop, inspect that route and its terrain separately before adding it.

Alternatively, use the third day for a different area from the builder: central browsing, the Lodhi art walk, Hauz Khas lanes, Sarojini Nagar or Dilli Haat INA. Review the main purpose and the actual date before deciding. A shopping-day closure or a venue restriction can make a different order more useful.

How do the day builder and map work together?

The builder assigns one area to each selected local day. Choose one, two or three days, then change the area for each. Its status text lists the proposed days before you open the planner. Reducing the count hides the later choices; expanding it again restores those choices in the open page.

The same attraction cannot appear on two proposed days. For example, an Old Delhi full day already contains Chandni Chowk, so a separate market-only day would repeat that place. The builder asks you to keep it on one day and choose another area or fewer days. This avoids duplication hidden behind two different route titles.

The optional-area map below lets you inspect alternatives one at a time and preview an individual area visit. It does not link all the neighbourhoods into one walking line. For the standard monument days, follow the detailed Old Delhi and garden-tomb guides, where the shorter choices and admission checks are explained.

A map layer and a planner day answer different questions. The map helps you orient yourself within the selected area; the planner records which places belong on each date. Neither calculates a whole-day travel time or verifies every entrance, crossing or pickup.

What should I change for a slower day?

Begin by reducing the selected visits, not by shrinking the time at each one until everything appears to fit. Keep one main visit, a seated break and a return plan. Check the terrain and actual public entrance for the circuit you want; a short route is not automatically step-free.

In Old Delhi, remove an optional mosque visit when worship access, steps or time do not suit, and limit the market. At Humayun’s Tomb, make the park optional. At Qutub, keep a substantial single visit before adding more ruins. In a neighbourhood, choose fewer lanes or murals and a clear turnaround.

Choose the relaxed pace setting in the planner as guidance, then review the stops yourself. Changing pace keeps your chosen places; it does not secretly remove a visit or guarantee an accessible itinerary. The visit total follows the actual selected stops.

Check current conditions before every outdoor day. Gardens, markets and mural walks all involve exposure; substituting one for another does not create an indoor alternative. Postpone or select a separately checked indoor visit when the outdoor plan does not suit your group.

How should I handle transport, meals and the return?

Plan the outward connection from your actual base and the return from your chosen finish. Metro may handle the longer part, while the final walk or local ride remains separate. A station name close to a monument on a city map does not identify a short, accessible visitor entrance approach.

Compare Metro ticket products using the rides you expect to take. Airport Express, local rides, attraction tickets and meals are separate costs. The transport hub includes terminal distinctions and a manual ticket comparison; it does not fabricate fares or guarantee a service at your required time.

For a T3–New Delhi railway-station transfer, keep the optional arrival and return checklist in the planner. NDLS, Delhi Junction / DLI and Hazrat Nizamuddin / NZM are different stations. The checklist does not replace the train ticket or establish a minimum flight-to-rail connection.

Give a meal its own space. Dietary questions, a queue, seated rest or a group choosing different dishes can change the outing. If food is the priority, reduce another optional part rather than treating every break as lost sightseeing time. A return buffer is part of the plan, not an unused slot to fill.

Use a neighbourhood or public landmark as the starting and return area in the planner, rather than a private address. Keep travel documents and booking references in your own records; they are not needed to build these local days.

What happens when I preview, save, share or download?

Opening a proposed selection shows the places and their day boundaries before you choose whether to apply it. The current stored draft and named trips are kept during that preview. Applying the selection changes the open draft after your choice; it does not overwrite every named trip in the library.

The builder does not guess your travel dates. Review the actual first local day, transport and pace in the planner. Applying the selection retains the starting area and optional arrival checklist already in the plan. If those belong to a different journey, change them explicitly before saving or sharing.

Save a named trip when you want to retain a version in this browser. If the name already exists, choose whether to replace that specific saved trip or use another name. Browser storage is local to the device; clearing it can remove the saved plans, so use a download or share link when that better fits your needs.

A share link preserves the selected places, order, day boundaries, dates and any starting area or arrival checklist. Anyone with it can see that information. The food-question prompt is not part of the link. Changes require a new share link if you want another person to receive the updated plan.

Download the HTML brief to keep its reading, chosen visits and return link to the editable itinerary. Online directions, operator notices and fresh conditions still need an internet connection. A download is not a transport booking or an offline navigation map.

What should I check the evening before each day?

Confirm the main visit’s opening arrangements and exact ticket product, then check the final entrance approach and return connection. Read the date-specific notices rather than relying on a generic Monday rule: Delhi sites do not all follow the same weekly schedule.

Look at the selected visits and remove anything that has become inconvenient. Keep a public meeting landmark for the group, a practical break and enough time around a fixed departure. If the main visit is unavailable, use another area only after checking that area’s own access and journey.

Will the whole day fit your available time?

Open each Delhi day in the planner to review its start and return-by times. The whole-day budget separates selected visit estimates, outward and return allowances, a per-connection allowance between visits, meal breaks and queue/rest contingency. It shows an estimated return and any time beyond your window.

The initial 09:00–18:00 window and travel/break values are examples. New Delhi drafts add the selected Metro station access times separately. Choose walking, auto, shared auto or taxi access inside each day. Select only the station legs you need; for direct journeys between sights, remove the station detour and include that connection in the manual travel allowance. Existing saved plans retain their manual times until you connect Metro access. Walking estimates come from the shared place routes; ride time is an editable pickup-and-ride allowance, not a traffic prediction. A separate visit-window check uses published hours, regular closure days and last-entry cutoffs where available. Airport arrival processing and flight reporting requirements remain separate. Use a start and end on the same Delhi local day.

Choose Download PDF for large text, phone-sized pages, day bookmarks and embedded route maps, Metro changes and walking directions. The HTML download remains available. The Delhi HTML itinerary download is a self-contained HTML file with embedded day-route diagrams, Metro station sequences and interchanges, plus cached walking directions and individual walking sketches. Save it before leaving connectivity and download again after editing your plan. Online guide and map links still require internet. Each day has a numbered route map with its selected Metro lines, interchanges and walking connections. It redraws when stops or travel settings change. Open the map inside an order or shorter-day suggestion to inspect it before applying. Coloured Metro segments join reference station positions; dashed links show manual or unverified connections. Reordering, adding or moving visits recalculates the budget without automatically removing them. Use Suggest best order to compare all your selected visits against available opening windows, Metro travel and the full-day budget. If the day is overloaded or has opening conflicts, Find a shorter day searches for the most visits that fit while keeping your must-keep choices. Review the order, travel time, fare, removed visits and station-leg changes before applying. Longer lists use a bounded search; unknown or provisional opening hours still need confirmation. Your draft changes only when you apply an option. Named saved copies are kept until explicitly replaced.

The daily transport summary uses group totals: auto and taxi meter references multiply by the selected vehicles, while an entered shared-auto quote multiplies by travellers. Add a group allowance for Metro, base journeys and other transport. Missing fares stay marked incomplete; zero must be entered explicitly. App quotes and supplements can differ. Automatic Metro can calculate supported station connections, reference running time, boarding/interchange allowances and single-journey fares. Choose a base Metro station for outward and return journeys. These calculated times replace the corresponding manual allowance; station-to-attraction walking or riding remains separate. Sunday and national-holiday ordinary fares are date-aware; Airport Express has a separate tariff. This is a historical route reference with current fare tables, not live departures, and it can miss newer extensions. Your saved time settings, base Metro station, group size, access choices and cost allowances travel with named trips, shared links and downloaded itineraries. Older links use the clearly labelled example allowances until you adjust them. Opening-window waiting is added to the total. The visit timeline puts queue/rest contingency before the first visit and meal breaks after it. Closed-day, late-finish and return-budget conflicts keep your visits for review. Unverified hours and conflicting sources are labelled; sunrise/sunset windows use approximate Delhi daylight with a 15-minute margin. Confirm special closures, actual admission, queues, public approaches and return services independently.

      Questions before you go

How do I avoid repeated cross-city journeys in two days?

Keep Old Delhi on one day and the Humayun’s Tomb–Sunder Nursery pairing on another, with outward and return connections from your actual base. Use the builder to choose another area when it suits your interests better.

Will the builder put the same place on two days?

No. It rejects repeated attraction IDs, including the overlap between a full Old Delhi day and a separate Chandni Chowk market day. Keep that visit on one day or choose fewer days.

Does opening a preview replace my saved trip?

No. Review the proposed days first. Applying changes the open draft after your choice; named saved trips remain separate until you explicitly save or replace one.

Are the shown visit hours the whole day’s duration?

No. They are editorial visit allowances. Add outward and return journeys, queues, security, meals, rests and optional extensions separately.
