Lotus Temple’s operator lists Tuesday–Sunday opening from 8:30 am to 5 pm, with Monday closure. Entry is free. Photography is excluded inside the prayer hall and Information Centre; professional shoots need permission. Choose Kalkaji Mandir or Okhla NSIC Metro, then check the actual entrance approach and leave time for queues.

Check the date and visitor rules

Choose a date to check the regular Monday closure. Confirm live access with the operator.

This comparison does not set the planner date or reserve admission.

When is Lotus Temple open, and what should I check first?

Use the House of Worship’s own visit page for its opening window. It lists Tuesday–Sunday, 8:30 am–5 pm, and Monday closure. Older seasonal timetables on other sites differ. Do not use a later closing time from a search snippet to justify a late arrival.

Leave space before closing rather than treating 5 pm as a target arrival. Screening, the approach and any queue precede your time inside. The operator also notes that crowding or heavy rain can restrict prayer-hall access. Being on the grounds does not guarantee immediate entry to every indoor area.

Use the date check above to notice a regular Monday closure. It does not reserve admission or consult live notices, and it does not change the date stored in the itinerary planner. If the chosen day is unavailable, move this visit to another day before saving the trip.

Which Metro station should I use?

The operator lists two approaches: Kalkaji Mandir, served by the Violet and Magenta lines, and Okhla NSIC on the Magenta Line. Compare the journey from your actual starting area before choosing. A station that avoids an interchange can be more useful than one that looks marginally closer on a map.

The map separates the two station approaches. Its temple pin identifies the complex area, not a public door. Follow current signs to the visitor entrance and check crossings, lifts and street conditions for your group. No numbered Metro gate or continuous step-free route has been independently established here.

For the return, check the station direction and connection to your base while you still have time to change the plan. If you arrive by a local ride, agree a public pickup landmark that you can recognise after the visit. A map pin inside the grounds is not a vehicle collection point.

Can I take photographs inside Lotus Temple?

Keep photography outside the prayer hall and Information Centre. The operator distinguishes these spaces from areas where photography is permitted and asks professional photographers to obtain permission. Permission for an ordinary exterior photograph does not authorise a commercial shoot, restricted access or photographing people without asking.

Plan the exterior photographs as a separate part of the visit. Put the camera away before entering the hall and follow the volunteers’ current directions. Do not hold up the entrance, block a path or turn a quiet worship space into a filming location.

If photography is the main reason for going, decide what you can do within the public opening window. An attractive dusk photograph online is not evidence of public access after closing. For a proposed professional setup, contact the operator before travelling rather than negotiating permission at the gate.

What happens in the prayer hall?

This is a Bahá’í House of Worship, open for prayer and reflection across backgrounds. It is an active worship space, so keep voices low, follow seating instructions and allow others to sit quietly. You do not need to plan a photographic record of the interior to make the visit worthwhile.

Read the operator’s prayer-service arrangements if attending a service matters to you. Entry, seating and departure can be managed during a service. Do not schedule an onward pickup on the assumption that you can walk straight through the hall at any moment.

A short architectural visit and time for reflection can share the outing without becoming a full-day temple circuit. Choose the part that matters most, then allow the rest to stay optional. The planner’s 75-minute allowance is an editorial estimate for a selected visit; queues and both journeys are additional.

What should I bring, and what about access?

Travel light. The operator excludes large baggage and food or drinks on the premises, asks for modest clothing covering shoulders and knees, and requires footwear removal in the prayer hall. Arrange substantial luggage separately before setting out; do not count on a city attraction to solve an airport baggage problem.

The operator lists wheelchairs at the main gate on a first-come basis. That is not confirmation that every part of your intended circuit or the walk from a Metro exit meets your access needs. Ask about the exact route, assistance and any steps before travelling, especially when a wheelchair is essential.

Keep your transport ticket, return landmark and relevant operator information available without entering private travel documents into the planner. A downloaded itinerary retains your reading and chosen stop. It does not retain live directions, guarantee a wheelchair or act as an admission pass.

What should I notice on a short architecture visit?

The operator’s architecture account identifies Fariborz Sahba as the architect and explains the three sets of nine petals. These are concrete shells clad in marble, rather than individual petals carved from solid blocks. Notice the overlapping surfaces and the way the entrances sit beneath them.

The surrounding pools and the daylight entering between the forms are part of the building’s design. Look from the permitted public paths, then compare the exterior with the quieter experience inside. The complex was inaugurated in 1986; its appearance does not make it an ancient monument.

Keep that architectural focus small enough to leave room for sitting and for the journey back. The best route for a first visit is the one you can complete within the public arrangements, without entering a closed area or adding another distant landmark to fill a list.

How do I fit Lotus Temple into a Delhi itinerary?

Use it as a separate optional visit in the day builder. Choosing a south-Delhi location does not make Qutub, Hauz Khas and Lotus Temple one short walk. Check each connection before combining areas; each extra admission or pickup uses time beyond the visit estimates.

Preview the single Lotus Temple stop, then review the planner’s actual date, starting area and other visits before applying. Keep a named copy when you want to retain this version. For broader comparisons, use the monument hub and Metro and transfer guidance.

    Questions before you go

Is Lotus Temple closed on Monday?

Yes. The operator lists Monday closure and Tuesday–Sunday opening from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Check date-specific notices before travelling.

Can I photograph the prayer hall?

No. The operator excludes photography inside the prayer hall and Information Centre. Professional photography requires prior permission.

Is admission different for Indian and foreign visitors?

Delhi Tourism lists free entry. Do not confuse a paid transport or tour service with an admission fee. Follow the operator’s access arrangements.

Does the planner include the Metro approach in the 75-minute visit?

No. The 75 minutes is an editorial visit allowance. Add both journeys, entrance access, screening, queues and breaks separately.
