DELHI / ARRIVAL WITHOUT THE GUESSWORK
Delhi Airport T3 to New Delhi Railway Station by Metro
From Delhi Airport Terminal 3, follow the signs to IGI Airport Metro station and take the Airport Express to New Delhi. Then follow the signed connection towards the railway station and your platform. Allow extra time for immigration, baggage, security and the final walk; the train ride is only part of the transfer.
Check the terminal and railway station first
This guide starts at Terminal 3
T3 connects to the Airport Express / Orange Line at IGI Airport station. A flight arriving at T1 uses a different Metro connection: Terminal 1-IGI Airport on the Magenta Line. Do not apply these T3 steps to T1 without planning that separate journey.
For T2, follow the airport’s current walking or shuttle instructions to the T3 connection. Verify the actual terminal on your flight information before committing to a transfer.
NDLS means New Delhi railway station
Check the full station name and code on your train ticket. Delhi Junction / Old Delhi (DLI) and Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM) are different stations. “Delhi” alone is not enough for a rail connection or a driver pickup.
New Delhi Airport Express Metro station is the Metro arrival point. Reaching it does not mean you have reached the correct railway platform.

The transfer, step by step
Clear arrivals before counting your Metro journey
Complete immigration where applicable, collect luggage and pass customs. Keep your railway ticket accessible. A flight’s scheduled landing time is not the time you will be ready to board the Metro.
Follow the T3 signs to IGI Airport Metro
Follow the terminal’s Metro / Airport Express signage. Keep baggage manageable through walks, lifts, screening and station circulation. Ask airport or Metro staff for the accessible route if stairs or long walks do not suit your group.
Buy the ticket for New Delhi on the Airport Express
Use the official ticket counter, machine or current DMRC purchase channel. Confirm the Airport Express product and destination, fare, validity and any interchange separately. Do not assume an ordinary tourist card includes this line. Keep the ticket or QR available for exit.
Board towards New Delhi
Check the platform direction on the live display. The airport describes the New Delhi–T3 train journey as around 25 minutes; that is a train component, not an airport-to-railway-platform transfer estimate. Allow for waiting and disruption separately.
Follow the railway connection, then find your platform
At New Delhi Metro, follow signs towards the railway station. Check your train number, date and platform on the station displays and with authorised railway staff. Platforms can change. Use the signed footbridge, lift or escalator route indicated for your train rather than a generic map pin.
For a meeting or road pickup, confirm the actual station side and landmark with the provider. Avoid an arbitrary numbered gate: a gate that works for one exit or train may add a crossing for another.
Will I make my train?
Build a connection allowance from the parts below. This guide cannot calculate a guaranteed minimum connection from a flight landing time.
- Flight delay and the time from aircraft to arrivals.
- Immigration, baggage and customs, where applicable.
- The signed terminal-to-Metro approach, tickets and screening.
- The next usable train, its ride and any disruption.
- Metro exit, railway approach, station circulation and your train’s boarding arrangements.
If missing the railway departure would break the trip, choose a more forgiving booking and check the ticket’s change conditions. A shorter map estimate is not evidence of a safe connection.
Late arrival, heavy luggage or an early flight
Check the service at the station you will actually use
Check current Airport Express operating times and notices with DMRC. A first or last departure quoted from a terminus is not the same as a train departing IGI Airport station. Do not assume a 24-hour service.
If Metro does not fit
Use the airport’s authorised transport arrangements or a booking you can verify with the provider. Confirm the full railway station name, pickup location, fare method and baggage capacity. Traffic makes road arrival times variable.
For the return journey
Reverse the sequence only after checking the flight terminal, usable Metro service and airline’s airport reporting time. At NDLS, find the Airport Express connection rather than assuming every New Delhi Metro entrance leads straight to its platform. Keep the airline’s check-in and security allowance separate.
Avoid unsolicited changes to your booking
If someone claims your train is cancelled, your station is closed or you must buy a replacement ticket elsewhere, confirm through the railway’s official information or authorised staff before paying or following them. Keep travel documents with you; this planner does not need a passport or booking reference.
Keep arrival separate from your day out
Add the T3–NDLS arrival and return checklist to your Delhi planner without adding airports or stations as sightseeing stops. Review it, then choose whether to keep it. It travels with your named save, share link and HTML download.
Review the arrival checklist →
Once you have arrived, choose the Old Delhi fort, mosque and market day or Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery. Neither requires you to start sightseeing straight after a flight.

Questions before you go
Is New Delhi Metro station the same as my railway platform?
No. The Airport Express arrives at New Delhi Metro. Follow the signed railway connection and then check the current platform for your specific train.
Can I use these steps from Terminal 1?
Not directly. T1 connects to the Magenta Line at Terminal 1-IGI Airport. Plan that journey and its interchanges separately from the T3 Airport Express route.
How long does the whole airport-to-train transfer take?
There is no single guaranteed time. Add arrivals processing, baggage, the Metro approach, tickets and screening, waiting, the ride, station circulation and your railway boarding allowance.
Can I keep the return steps in my saved plan?
Yes. Review and apply the optional T3–NDLS checklist in the Delhi planner. It is retained in named trips, share links and downloaded briefs, separately from sightseeing stops.
