DELHI DAY PLAN / Nizamuddin
Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery in One Day
Yes. Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery work as a paired day because the two sites are neighbours, but each has its own entrance and admission arrangements. Begin with the tomb complex, take a break, then choose a shorter park circuit. Add transfers and meals separately, and check access and outdoor conditions before departure.
At Humayun’s Tomb, the garden frames the mausoleum’s approach and symmetry. At Sunder Nursery, conserved monuments sit within a restored garden and ecological landscape. The pairing invites comparison, with one substantial visit and a second stop whose length you control.
Preview first, then choose whether to apply. Your named saved trips are kept.
Know the shape of the day
- Main visit
- Humayun’s Tomb
- Walking & terrain
- Outdoor garden paths, an exposed monument complex and steps at raised spaces. A shorter circuit is possible, but confirm the access your group needs.
- Transfers
- The two sites are neighbours, but have separate public entrances and admission. Check the gate-to-gate approach on the day; do not assume a direct passage through the grounds.
- Breaks
- Pause after the tomb visit before deciding how much of the park to explore. Allow a meal and seated rest outside the visit totals.
The visit allowances below exclude arrival, queues, transfers, meals and breaks.
Route map: the visits in order
Two entrances, two admission checks
Get to the visitor entrance, not the monument pin
Delhi Tourism identifies JLN Stadium Metro for the tomb area; an onward street connection is still needed. Choose the current last-mile connection for your group and confirm the public ticket entrance before leaving the station. A nearby Metro label does not mean a short, step-free walk.
Exit the tomb before entering the park
After the tomb visit, return to its public exit, take a break and follow current directions to Sunder Nursery’s public ticket entrance. Do not assume an internal connecting passage or access through a garden boundary. The map connects the two site areas; it does not mark a gate-to-gate path.
Check exactly what your ticket covers
Check ASI’s current booking channel for the tomb, visitor eligibility and any separate museum admission. Official tourism listings have differed on prices and opening hours, so confirm the actual product before paying. Check Sunder Nursery’s own ticket page for its categories and any event charges. A package only covers the venues explicitly named on it.

Choose how much garden to add
At the tomb: see the garden as well as the building
Keep time for the formal garden approach and views back towards the mausoleum. The complex’s paths, plinths and steps affect the effort of the visit; check staff advice if upper-level access is difficult. The two-hour allowance below is an editorial visit estimate, not a queue or access guarantee.
At Sunder Nursery: a short circuit is enough
At the park entrance, use the site map to choose a circuit around Sunder Burj and the gardens that suits your remaining energy, then return to an agreed exit. A 90-minute park visit is a selected circuit, not a promise to see every monument, habitat or event. Ask park staff about the accessible paths; not every area has equivalent access.
Keep extra Delhi stops separate
Lodhi Garden requires another transfer. Lodhi Art District is a different place again. Neither belongs automatically in this two-stop day. If the tomb uses your available energy, preview the tomb-only selection and keep the park for another day.
Both sites are outdoors. Heat, rain and poor air can make a longer circuit unsuitable; the park is not an indoor fallback. Check current conditions and venue notices before departure.
Questions before you go
Does one ticket cover both sites?
Do not assume so. The tomb and park have separate admission arrangements. Any combined product only covers the venues and conditions explicitly named on it.
Can I visit both on the same day?
Yes. Start at the tomb, leave through its public exit, take a break and enter Sunder Nursery separately. Check admission and current access before departure.
How much time should I allow?
The editorial visit allowances are about two hours for the tomb and 90 minutes for a selected park circuit. Add queues, breaks, meals, the gate connection and outward and return travel separately.
Is the park an indoor alternative in poor weather or air?
No. Both visits involve outdoor areas. Shorten, postpone or choose a separately checked indoor visit if current conditions do not suit your group.
Connecting your arrival and your day
Read the airport T3–NDLS transfer guide and keep its optional checklist separately in your Delhi plan. Choose the guide for your actual railway station and terminal.
Start and finish
Getting there
Choose your connection to the public entrance of Humayun’s Tomb. Check the last part of the journey from your selected Metro station or drop-off.
Arrival and onward connectionsGetting back
Finish at Sunder Nursery’s public exit and use a preselected onward ride or Metro connection. Keep your base name and return route saved.
Add a starting / return area in the planner to keep it with your saved day. Use a neighbourhood or landmark rather than a private address.
The visits, in order
Humayun’s Tomb
About 2 hours for the garden approach and main complex.
Pause on the garden axis before approaching the mausoleum: the landscape and the building were conceived together.
Approach: Head to the signed public entrance off the Mathura Road / Nizamuddin side using current local directions. JLN Stadium Metro still needs a separate onward connection; do not navigate to the tomb-centre pin as a vehicle entrance.
Admission: Confirm the applicable ASI ticket category and purchase channel. Admission to Sunder Nursery is separate; a neighbouring museum or special programme may also be separate.
Sunder Nursery
About 90 minutes for a selected garden circuit; a longer park visit needs more time.
Compare the conserved tombs, designed gardens and ecological landscape rather than treating the park as spare space after the main monument.
Approach: Use the park’s own visitor entrance near Humayun’s Tomb. Leave one site and enter the other through its public gate; proximity does not mean an internal connecting passage.
Admission: The park has its own admission categories and ticket. Consult its operator page for prices, current gate hours, notices and accessibility support.

Make it shorter
Keep Humayun’s Tomb as the only main visit and remove Sunder Nursery. If the park is your priority, you can instead keep only the park in the editor.

If the main visit is unavailable
If the tomb is unavailable, keep Sunder Nursery only when its operator confirms access. If the park is unavailable, finish after the tomb; there is no need to substitute a distant monument.
If outdoor conditions do not suit
This is an outdoor day, including the park. It is not a poor-air or extreme-heat fallback. Check official conditions and postpone the outdoor plan when they do not suit your needs.
