Delhi: editorial suitability on a 1–5 scale
CategoryScoreReason
Scenery3/5An editorial suitability score: gardens and monuments are the visual highlights, rather than wilderness.
Heritage5/5Three UNESCO-listed monument groups plus living historic neighbourhoods provide exceptional depth.
Car-free ease5/5The Metro makes district-to-district travel practical; entrances still require some walking or a short ride.
Family suitability3/5Plenty to interest families, but heat, crowding and long monument walks need a slower pace.
Value4/5Public transport and selective paid attractions can keep costs manageable; hotels vary widely.

CategoryScoreReason
Scenery3/5Editorial judgement: the temple complex and built heritage are the main visual experiences.
Heritage5/5Sikh institutions, memorials and Partition history give a short stay exceptional depth.
Car-free ease4/5The old-city core is compact; separate districts need local rides and careful pickup points.
Family suitability4/5A gentle city pace works well, but memorial content and crowds merit preparation.
Value4/5Walking and selective attractions offer value; transport and hotel choice drive the budget.

CategoryScoreReason
Scenery4/5Editorial suitability: river and foothill scenery are strong, but the town itself is busy.
Heritage4/5Living ashram culture, worship and the Beatles connection offer several distinct interests.
Car-free ease3/5Individual neighbourhoods suit walking; changing crossings and hilly approaches complicate links.
Family suitability3/5Gentle cultural plans can suit families; river activities need individual eligibility checks.
Value4/5Longer stays and simple meals can offer value; courses and adventure packages vary substantially.

CategoryScoreReason
Scenery4/5Editorial suitability: beaches, estuary views and historic streets create strong visual variety.
Heritage4/5Old Goa and Panaji add substantial cultural interest alongside the coast.
Car-free ease3/5A compact base helps, but attraction-to-attraction public transport requires extra planning.
Family suitability4/5A relaxed beach-and-heritage mix suits many families; water access needs close supervision.
Value3/5Value varies sharply by season, location and transport; peak holiday stays can be expensive.

Spiti Valley: editorial suitability on a 1–5 scale
CategoryScoreReason
Scenery5/5Editorial judgement: high-desert valleys and mountain settlements are the defining strength.
Heritage5/5Living monasteries, village architecture and Buddhist cultural traditions reward patient visits.
Car-free ease1/5Long distances and limited services make tightly scheduled car-free touring difficult.
Family suitability2/5Altitude, road journeys and limited medical access require more preparation than a typical family break.
Value3/5Simple accommodation can be affordable, but transport and essential buffer days add substantial cost.

UnratedTrip evidence missing

Exceptional landscapes and distinctive monasteries, with the lake objective achieved and active exploration documented.

Documented riding, vehicle and coordination problems lower the practical rating. Service quality and prices lack sufficient trip-specific evidence.

Current advisories: Current access unverified · 2024 riding and support issues recorded · Official status source ↗

Why a range? Evidence, safety context & sources

14 of 17 core criteria supported · 76% of Visitor friendliness weight supported. The range preserves the full weight of three unknown criteria: food/stay quality, local pricing and actual transport/package charges. No neutral score or assumed scam rate is inserted. These are editorial research estimates, not Nick’s confirmed personal ratings or a safety clearance.

Historical evidence: Riding incidents and vehicle/support problems are documented. The blog does not supply a complete assistance account for every place and leg; no P1 no-flag or owner-approved safety finding is asserted.

Current check: Official sources checked on 12 October 2026. The road-status page still displays a 14 May 2024 update and the advisory page has no route-specific dated notice. Current pass, lake approach and bus operations remain unverified; obtain a fresh local confirmation.

Method P1-0.4 / 12 October 2026

Two scores tell the story.

Experience

The reward: what you saw, how distinctive it felt, the setting and what you learned or took part in. A difficult journey can still deliver an exceptional experience.

Visitor friendliness

The practical reality: local movement, food and stays, reliable information, amenities, fair prices, respectful treatment and the journeys between stops. Each review explains what raised or lowered this score.

Visitor friendliness = 70% local conditions + 30% journeys
Overall blend = (40 × Experience + 55 × Visitor friendliness) ÷ 95

The blend is a secondary summary. Sustainability is rated separately when there is sufficient observation; it never changes or blocks the blend. P1 calculations retain full precision, apply any historical safety cap, then display the nearest half point. R1 research uses the same weights with full-weight bounds for unknowns; ranges are rounded outward. Research bounds are not a gated P1 clearance.

Ratings are bounded firsthand judgements: 0 represents major failure or very limited experience, 5 mixed or workable delivery, and 10 exceptional delivery supported by concrete observations. In a confirmed P1 review, an unknown core criterion leaves its component unrated; it is never replaced with zero or an assumed average.

Phase 1 is a pilot method for dated whole-trip reviews. It is not yet a numerical place or state ranking. A short review of a few stops cannot stand in for the entire eight-day trip.

17 core ratings / 2 optional

What goes into a review.

Each criterion has four review fields: score, short justification, evidence reference and retrospective recall flag. Dates, scenario and reviewer details are recorded once. We count local purchases under L4 and transport or package charges under J5, so one event is not counted twice.

Experience · 4 ratings
CriterionWeightWhat it covers
A1 · Experience delivered30%How rewarding the visited experiences were and whether they met their description.
A2 · Distinctiveness and authenticity30%Distinctive features actually encountered, without using fame or visitor volume as a proxy.
A3 · Setting20%Natural, architectural or cultural character of the visited settings.
A4 · Depth and engagement20%Meaningful exploration, learning and participation across the trip.
Local visitor conditions · 7 ratings
CriterionWeightWhat it covers
L1 · Local conditions and assistance experienced20%Observed local hazards, personal comfort and assistance actually used or known. Unverified general emergency capacity is a disclosed limit.
L2 · Movement within visited areas15%Local access, navigation and movement in this scenario. Inter-place legs belong in Journey.
L3 · Food and accommodation used15%Delivery, hygiene and reliability of services actually used.
L4 · Value, fair pricing and sales pressure15%Observed local purchases and pressure. Transport and package charges belong in J5.
L5 · Basic amenities and local communications15%Facilities and communications at the visited places. Remote inter-place gaps belong in J4.
L6 · Local information and reliability10%Accuracy and usefulness of local visitor information, including government portals and service information actually used.
L7 · Hospitality and respectful treatment10%Specific help and treatment received, without generalising about residents.
Journeys between places · 6 ratings
CriterionWeightWhat it covers
J1 · Inter-place transport reliability25%Vehicles and services used, completion of planned legs and relevant contingencies.
J2 · Journey hazards and response25%Observed hazards and incidents, warnings, and the response actually supplied.
J3 · Timing and disruption information15%Realistic timings, road closure information and adaptation during the trip.
J4 · Fuel, repairs, services and coordination access15%Actual service gaps, breakdown support and communications or offline coordination.
J5 · Transport charges and inclusions10%Agreed transport or package costs and what was delivered. No duplication of local purchases.
J6 · Organisation and contingency execution10%Organiser support for group trips, or documented coordination in independent trips.
Sustainability · 2 optional ratings
CriterionWeightWhat it covers
S1 · Conservation practices observed60%Observed conservation practices. Beautiful scenery alone is not evidence of ecological management.
S2 · Community participation and ethics observed40%Observed local participation and ethical practices; record the scope of the observation.

Weights shown above apply within each component. A limited day-trip exception can omit L3 only if no food or accommodation was used and no planned essential service failed; remaining local weights are then divided by 85. This exception does not apply to the Spiti overnight trip.

Bounded evidence / separate dates

A review is not a safety certificate.

For every visited area and major journey leg, the reviewer records hazards or warnings observed, assistance used or known, and incidents with their response and outcome. A dated, attributed retrospective account is valid; silence in a film is not evidence that nothing happened. Shared statements must name the places and legs they cover and list exceptions.

Historical findingEffect on the trip card
None observed within the reviewer’s firsthand scopeNo flag-level concern established after the scoped checklist. Ordinary hazards and managed incidents remain disclosed; supported scores may appear.
Amber: evidenced concernA material concern with inadequate management. Visitor friendliness and the blend are each capped at 5 before rounding.
Red: evidenced serious issueAn applicable historical prohibition, serious threat or demonstrated serious assistance failure. Visitor friendliness and the blend are withheld; Experience may remain.
Material safety question unresolvedVisitor friendliness and the blend are held, with the precise issue named.

Unverified general emergency capacity alone does not block the scores. Current advisories have their own source, checked date and affected scenario. They do not change the historical ratings; an expired review date means “Needs recheck”. Reviewer-confirmed P1 reviews need owner sign-off. The separately labelled R1 research supplement is published under the owner’s research commission and does not assert a P1 safety finding.

R1-0.1 / sources inspected 12 October 2026

How we reached this assessment.

Research assessment of the itinerary and organised motorcycle scenario, validated against Nick’s 29 September–6 October 2024 account. Stable heritage and contextual services were checked online on 12 October 2026. This is not a current-access assessment or a reviewer-confirmed P1 score.

26 source pages and records inspected; 14 of 17 core criteria have research suggestions. This is a curated desk review, not a representative sentiment sample or a statistical ranking. Source claims are checked against the blog, their dates and their scope.

Experience = 0.30 × 9 + 0.30 × 9 + 0.20 × 10 + 0.20 × 7 = 8.8 → 9.0 / 10
Local conditions = 3.75 + 0.15 × L3 + 0.15 × L4
Journeys = 3.35 + 0.10 × J5
Visitor friendliness = 3.63–6.03 → 3.5–6.5 / 10
Blend = 5.8068–7.1963 → 5.5–7.5 / 10

Missing core criteria retain their original weights and an unassigned 0–10 possible domain. The range is an unknown-component arithmetic bound, not a confidence interval or an assumed average. Supported ratings remain editorial judgements. Bounds are shown outward to the nearest half point. These ranges are the raw R1 research calculation; a later P1 review applies its historical safety gate before displaying a confirmed blend.

What this research could not establish
  • No representative review sample or regional scam prevalence was scraped. Search-result allegations and promotional directory text were not scored as established misconduct.
  • No current dated official taxi-union tariff was recovered. Generic indicative prices and the 2018–19 hotel tariff were rejected for current or trip-specific pricing.
  • The film was linked as provenance but not directly watched for this assessment. No footage-based safety conclusion is claimed.
  • Accommodation hygiene, total actual spend, undocumented assistance and conservation practices remain unknown.
  • No attraction, place or Himachal state index is inferred from this single route assessment.

To narrow the practical range, add the actual food/stay quality, local transaction observations and the paid package with its inclusions. No confirmed scam prevalence is inferred from isolated reviews.

The next level / coverage first

From attractions to states.

Later phases will combine individual attraction reviews with each place’s own visitor conditions. A state index will average its unique rated places. Repeated stops and overlapping trips will not give a place extra influence. The attraction-to-place formula and minimum coverage rules still need a separate method before state comparisons are published.

What makes the pilot useful?

Readers should be able to distinguish the trip’s reward from its practical friction, identify the dates, and decide whether to open the route. We’ll test this with five readers and log review entry time before expanding coverage.
