Buried field systems
Use the interpretation to understand how walls hidden by bog can reveal the layout of a much older landscape. Seeing a small exposed section is only part of that explanation.

Céide Fields asks you to look for a landscape that is mostly hidden. Beneath the bog are traces of prehistoric fields and settlement, and the visitor interpretation does much of the work of making that invisible pattern understandable. Come prepared for an archaeological idea, not rows of standing monuments spread across a manicured field.

Choose it if early farming and the relationship between people, land and climate interest you. It pairs naturally with a separate Downpatrick Head visit, but the indoor story deserves attention rather than becoming a short stop before the sea-stack photograph.
The visitor centre and outdoor archaeological experience have managed opening arrangements. Exposed north-coast weather can change how much of the outdoor element feels comfortable.

Experience considers the reward and depth of this particular stop. Visitor friendliness considers practical ease: arrival, booking, physical demands, cost and flexibility. These are editorial judgements based on linked information, not visitor averages or a claim of a personal visit.

The blend uses (40 × Experience + 55 × Visitor friendliness) ÷ 95, rounded to the nearest half point. Missing sustainability does not affect it. A missing current visit score is not zero and has no blend.
A high score is not a safety clearance or a guarantee of step-free access. Food-stop scores concern the planned visit, not an untested meal. Read the scale and scope · Suggest a correction.
